ESA: Email security appliance

Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA) is a professional level certification course which will delineate how to install, administer, troubleshoot, and use a Cisco Email Security Appliance in order to protect against ransomware, phishing, and compromise to your email systems. This instructor-led course will teach you how to manage and streamline email security policies. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to take the Securing Email with Cisco Email Security Appliance exam (300-720 SESA) to qualify for the Certified Specialist – Email Content Security and CCNP Security certifications.

Prerequisites for this course:
At least one of the following technical competencies or the equivalent skill set is expected:

  • Appropriate industry certification such as:
    • Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC)
    • International Information System Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)2)
    • An Information Systems Audit and Control Association Certification (ISACA)
    • International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants (EC-Council)
  • Proficiency of Windows such as:
    • CompTIA (Server +, A+, Network+)
    • Microsoft [Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Specialist, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)]
  • Letter of completion of Cisco Networking Academy (CCNA 1 and CCNA 2)
  • Cisco certification (CCENT)

 

Familiarity with the following topics is required:

  • Routing of IP
  • IP/TCP services, such as:
    • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
    • Secure Shell (SSH)
    • Domain Name System (DNS)
    • HTTPS and HTTP

 

Skills to be learned:

  • Master the use of mail policies, content filters, and message filters to further support email policies
  • Encrypt and authenticate emails
  • Avoid data loss
  • Troubleshoot and test the system
  • Implement outbreak and anti-virus filters 
  • Execute Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) queries
  • Manage recipient and sender domains
  • Utilize the system delivery methods and quarantines
  • Utilize Talos SenderBase and anti-spam to eliminate spam
  • Utilize clusters to execute centralized management 
  • Thoroughly understand and implement the Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA)
